How to Copy and Paste

There are different ways to copy and paste but they all begin the same. You must highlight the text you want to copy. You can copy whole pages of text in the following manner but for this demo we are just doing one line. Then you will know how to copy a webpage address to share with others.

To highlight the address you can start at either the beginning or end of the text. Put the mouse arrow at the beginning or end and click one time. This should change the arrow into something that looks like a capital letter I. Then hold the left mouse button down and drag the I across the text to be copied. This will cause the text to be covered in a gray rectangle. When everything you want to copy is covered in gray let go of the left button.

Sample of highlighting but this doesn't show the I or the gray color as it probably will look. Some computers do have different color schemes set so your copy highlight may not be gray.

Now you are ready to copy the highlighted text. You can copy in different ways which I will explain. Use the method easiest for you.

1. At the top of your computer screen click on edit.....then scroll down and click on copy. The highlighted text has now been saved in the browser and ready to paste into a different place. For this example we are using a new message in your email program. This copy will be saved in your browser until you copy something different or shutdown the browser.

To paste in an email---Open the compose email program. Click on a spot by putting the mouse arrow on the blank mail screen and left click one time. Next click on the edit at the top of your computer screen and scroll to paste then click. The text you copied should now be in your email...ready to send to family and friends. You can write explaining what you are sharing a link before you paste or just send the link.

2. Another way to copy and paste after you have highlighted the address. Right click on the highlighted area 1 time. A small menu will pop up, then click on copy. When you are ready to paste...left click 1 time where the copy is to be place. Then right click and choose paste from the menu.

3. Another way to copy with the computer keyboard is by holding down Ctrl and C simultaneously. To paste with the keyboard use the Ctrl and V keys simultaneously.

4. The way I copy and paste with Internet Explorer is with the copy and paste buttons at the top of my computer screen. I do not know if other browsers have these buttons. The copy looks like 2 sheets of paper and the paste looks like a clipboard. Just click on which one you need. If you have I.E. but do not see these buttons you can add them by clicking on view at top of the computer screen. Next choose toolbars...then customize. You can add or remove different buttons and dividers to your browser in this manner.

Have fun with your copy and pasting activities. You can also copy the address to a webpage by clicking on the address in the browser and highlighting it.
